Do I need a laptop computer for school?

We highly recommend purchasing a personal computer for your studies at Erskine.

In the event one cannot be purchased for your studies at Erskine, there are several public use computers on campus for student use.

The recommendation for personal computers are:

  • Windows 11 operating system or Macintosh Operating system 15 (Sequoia) or higher
  • Screen size of 15 inches (students may prefer smaller or larger computer screens)
  • RAM/Memory of at least 8 GB (higher is better)
  • Storage of at least 120 GB (higher is better)
    • Solid State Drives (SSDs) perform faster and better than traditional spinning hard disks (HDDs) but cost more per GB
  • Extended Warranty
  • Accidental Drop Protection

We do not recommend Chromebooks or Tablets as the main computing source for the studies at Erskine.
